24 Dec Request for Proposals: Admissions Review
The Prince Edward Island Institute of Agrologists (PEIIA) is the professional body governing the practice of agrology in the province of Prince Edward Island under the Agrologists Act.
In this capacity, the PEIIA admits members to the Institute primarily as Professional Agrologists (P. Ag.), providing that they meet educational and work experience requirements as dictated by the Act and by current admission guidelines. Applicants possessing educational requirements but not yet possessing sufficient experience are admitted to the Agrologist in Training (AIT) program. Applicants not possessing educational requirements to become a P. Ag. but possessing significant experience working professionally in agriculture are eligible to become Technical Agrologists (T. Ag.).
In recent years, the PEIIA has experienced a growing number of applications for membership. A significant number of these applicants are working professionally in agriculture but who do not hold a B.Sc. with sufficient Agrology-related courses to meet the National Education Standard adopted by the Alliance of Canadian Agrology Regulators (ACAR), of which the PEIIA is a member. Historically, the PEIIA has sought to be inclusive in consideration of membership applications. As such, applicants that would not meet the current National Education Standard but possessing other agrology education and/or significant work experience or other training have been admitted to the Institute.
The PEIIA is seeking proposals from interested parties to assist the Council and Membership Committee to:
- Review current admission guidelines as to their adherence to the ACAR National Education Standard.
- Review admission requirements from other provincial institutes of agrologists in Canada.
- Identify ways in which other provincial institutes recognize additional forms of agrology training (ie. Certified Crop Advisor, Nutrient Management Planning) in consideration for admission.
- Identify a comprehensive list of additional forms of agrology training and develop a suggested schedule of equivalency to credit-hours under the National Education Standard.
- Review the Agrologist in Training (AIT) and Technical Agrologist (T. Ag.) admission guidelines with respect to other provincial institutes.
Proposals will be evaluated based upon:
- Experience within the field of agrology. Experience with agrology regulation will be given significant consideration.
- Ability to deliver within a relatively short timeframe.
- Experience in project management
- Project cost
Proposals should be submitted to the PEIIA administrator (info@peiia.ca) by 5:00 pm on Friday, January 23rd, 2026. Completion of this project is expected with a final report by March 30th, 2026.
